The second edition of the Festival Street Art Rillieux took place from 17 to 28 October 2023, in Rillieux-la-Pape, transforming the town into a real open-air museum. Between the realization of frescoes, workshops of initiation to street art, urban walks, exhibitions, film projections, graffiti performances, visits of apartments transformed into works of art, live shows and meetings with artists, the Rillieux Street Art Festival was able to energise the town with passion.

The Grimace Concept

Why the grimace? At first glance, this may seem trivial, but this thematic choice is actually deeply significant. Grimace, often associated with childhood and play, transcends cultural and linguistic barriers. It is a universal act of spontaneity and raw emotion. By depicting individuals from all walks of life making faces, artists celebrate human diversity and unity in difference. The grimace thus becomes a symbol of freedom of expression and liberation from social conventions.

This work invites us to reflect on our own humanity. By staring at us with exaggerated and often funny expressions, she reminds us of the importance of not taking ourselves too seriously and of valuing humor and lightness in our daily lives.

Passers-by, visitors and residents of Rillieux-la-Pape were able to witness the creation of this work, exchanging with the artists and sharing their own grimaces, creating a real connection between art and the community.
